Soon after gunshots rang out in a Baldwin Harbor neighborhood late Sunday, a man in critical condition knocked on a door a block away for help -- the surviving victim of a fatal shooting, authorities said Monday.
Another man was found in a Mercedes-Benz in front of a house near Adams Street and Grand Avenue. Police said they're investigating the late-night shooting. Neither victim was identified.
After being shot in the Mercedes, the surviving victim fled a block north to Lincoln Street. A neighbor answered the victim's knock and dialed 911, police said.
No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon, police said of the ongoing investigation.
The victim in the car was found about 10:40 p.m., police said. The injured victim was taken to a hospital to be treated. His condition was not released.
Additional details were not available.
Neighbors were caught off-guard by the violence. Some heard the gunshots Sunday night, but at first thought they were fireworks.
Mario Salubro, 48, who lives on the same block where the victim was killed, said he was shaken. "It's a nice block, it's quiet," he said. "Nobody has ever robbed anybody here or been shot."
