Cops: 3 arrested after attempt to sell stolen jewelry for drugs
Two men and a woman were arrested Sunday in connection with a case involving drug possession, theft and harassment, Nassau County police said.
Jay Capodiferro, 29, of 57 Edwards St., Roslyn Heights, was charged with two counts of petty larceny, third-degree stalking and second-degree aggravated harassment, police said. He was arraigned Monday and bail was set at $5,000.
Janine Devlin, 29, of 3 Foxcroft Rd., Albertson, was charged with petty larceny, police said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 2.
Stephen Devita, 29, of 124 Seward St., Mineola, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was arraigned Monday and held pending a $25,000 bail.
Devlin was released on a desk-appearance ticket returnable to First District Court on Sept. 2, police said.
Police said the initial incident took place in Roslyn Heights on Aug. 11 about 8 p.m. It was then, police said, that Capodiferro and Devlin "took assorted pieces of jewelry from a female victim" while at her home in Roslyn Heights. Following the theft, police said Capodiferro "also harassed and stalked" the woman.
Police said that on Sunday, Capodiferro "attempted to sell the jewelry" to Devita "as an exchange for drugs" -- but instead was arrested. Devita was found to be in possession of stolen jewelry, opiate pills and about 11 grams of heroin, police said. Some of the jewelry was recovered at the scene -- and returned to the victim.
