Cops arrest one, seek another in Hempstead robbery

Nassau detectives arrested one man Tuesday and are looking for another in connection with the May 14 robbery of a man in his Hempstead home.

Police charged Okeith N. Lewis, 28, of 161 Westbury Blvd., Hempstead with robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon, and are looking for the man they say was his accomplice.

Police said in a news release the two entered the man's Harvard Street home while he was sleeping, beat him with a handgun and took his car keys. A police spokesman could not confirm that they took his car.

The victim, identified by police only as a 45-year-old man, suffered bruises, cuts and an eye injury.

Lewis was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead. Detectives ask anyone with information about the robbery to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Callers need not give their names.
