Cops: Benjamin Palemon was North Valley Stream shooting victim
A man who was shot and killed near his mother's house in North Valley Stream Monday evening has been identified by police as Benjamin Palemon, 22.
The mother, Chimene Palemon Cyrille, and her husband were home Monday evening when they heard a loud noise, which she said the couple initially thought was the sound made by a flat tire. They went outside their house on Charles Street to inspect.
"We heard someone screaming 'help, help,' " she said. "Then we saw him lying on the ground."
Nassau County police arrested Joshua Geddes, 23, of Queens Village, and charged him with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting.
Meanwhile, about the same time Palemon was shot, and about half a mile away, police discovered a second man on Linden Boulevard shot and wounded in the abdomen. Police, who did not release his name, said he was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in "guarded" condition.
Police, who have not provided details of the shootings, would not say whether the two shootings are related.
Wednesday, Cyrille said her family is making funeral arrangements to bury her son, whom she said was just a "child."
"My son was a very nice boy, everybody loved him," she said.
At the time her son was shot, Cyrille said he was coming to her house to wish her husband happy birthday. On Sunday, she and her son had exchanged texts about it.
"He never made it to our house," she said.
