Two Westbury men assaulted and attempted to rob a 42-year-old bicyclist Saturday morning in New Cassel, Nassau County police said.

After being placed in custody, one of the suspects, Hector Blanco, 25, of Cypress Lane West, then attempted to kick at arresting officers from Nassau's Third Precinct, officials said.

Blanco and Franklin Reyes, 18, of Post Avenue, face charges of second-second-degree robbery while Blanco is also charged with resisting arrest.

The victim, police said, was riding his bicycle in the vicinity of Prospect Avenue at 12:30 a.m. when he was confronted by Blanco and Reyes. The suspects stepped in front of the bike but the victim kept peddling, police said.

Blanco eventually chased down the victim, punching and kicking him, detectives said. Blanco also attempted to steal the victim's cellphone as he unsuccessfully tried to call police, authorities said.

Police officers in the neighborhood observed the attack and arrested Blanco and Reyes.

As the officers attempted to put Blanco into the backseat of the police car, the suspect twisted his body and attempted to escape, police said. Once inside the vehicle, Blanco attempted to kick the officers, police said. No injuries were reported.

The two men will be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
