A man and a woman removed tools and copper wire from electrical repair trucks in an East Garden City construction parking lot Friday morning but were caught after they tried to leave, Nassau police said.

Morgan Miller, 20, of North Massapequa, and James Yates, 32, of Port Jefferson, were at the rear of the Red Roof Inn on Dibblee Drive when they forced their way into a gated parking area about 1:20 a.m., police said. They took tools and the wiring off the trucks and placed them in the trunk of their Hyundai, police said.

They were leaving just as officers arrived, and Yates ran away but Miller was arrested there, police said.

Yates was found and arrested about 3:30 a.m. at Skylark Lane in Levittown, police said.

A pair of pliers used to cut copper wire was found in the couple's car, police said.
