A Freeport man who stabbed one man and struck another in the face Sunday was arrested on charges of attempted murder and assault, Nassau County police said.

David McKelvey Jr., 24, of 323 N. Brookside Ave., was at a residence on Weberfield Avenue in Freeport when he became involved in a confrontation and stabbed a man, 57, several times in the back and left leg, police said.

He left the house and was on his way to another residence, on Gill Avenue, when he asked a man, 19, to use his phone. McKelvey then struck that man in the face, causing bruising and swelling, police said.

McKelvey later was arrested, at about 9:45 p.m., at the Gill Avenue residence, police said.

The 57-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition, police said. The other man declined medical assistance at the scene, where police said a weapon was recovered.

McKelvey is charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
