A Freeport man was arrested inside his home Monday and charged with stabbing a woman there, Nassau police said.

Eric W. Smith, 44, of Archer Street, was arrested after police received a call about 5:30 a.m. from a woman who had been stabbed, police said in a news release.

When officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old woman standing in front of Smith's home bleeding from her face and arms, police said.

The victim told the officers Smith was still in the home, where he was promptly arrested without incident, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

Smith was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon in the fourth degree. He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
