A man robbed a hotel and assaulted its employee in Hicksville on Saturday night, Nassau County police said.

Police said a man approached the clerk at the EconoLodge at 429 Duffy Ave. at about 11 p.m. and demanded money before striking the employee with his fist repeatedly on his upper body.

The clerk opened the cash register and the man took the black insert with the money before running away northeast toward Duffy Avenue, police said.

The man had a knife, but the clerk was not injured.

The man was described as thin, between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-5, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black mask.
