The house cleaner was cleaning out a house in Rockville Centre of a bit more than dust, helping herself to about $35,000 worth of jewelry since January, Nassau County police said.

Taquasia D. Shepherd, 26, of 78 Albemarle Ave., Hempstead, was arrested at 7:09 p.m. Tuesday in Rockville Centre, police said. She was charged with third-degree grand larceny.

Nassau County District Court Judge Joy Watson on Wednesday ordered Shepherd held on $5,000 bail or bond. She remained in custody and was due to return to court Friday, according to online court records.

Police said that between January and November, Shepherd, employed as a house cleaner at a home on Milburn Street, "systematically removed" about $35,000 worth of jewelry from the house. It was not clear what type or how many items of jewelry were taken.

It also was not clear what evidence police believe links Shepherd to the crime.
