A Hicksville man has been arrested in a slashing assault outside a Westbury restaurant last weekend, Nassau police said.

Hector Rivas-Merino, 22, of 119 E. Marie St., Hicksville, was arrested Thursday in the slashing of a man across the face, left arm and back on Sunday, police said.

Police said the 24-year-old victim was standing outside the Romelia Sabor Latino Restaurant, 678 Union Ave., Westbury, about 1:20 a.m. when he got into an "altercation" with a woman.

Rivas-Merino then approached them, said police, and assaulted the victim with what police said was either a razor or a knife, causing multiple lacerations. A police ambulance took the injured man to a hospital to be treated.

Rivas-Merino was charged with assault first degree and criminal possession of a weapon third degree. He also was being charged with criminal mischief third degree and aggravated harassment second degree from previous cases. He will be arraigned Friday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Detectives request that anyone with information on the case contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls are confidential and all callers remain anonymous.
