Cops: Man charged in string of burglaries on Floral Park street
An Elmont man arrested early Sunday after he broke into a barber shop in Floral Park has been charged in connection with a string of recent burglaries on the same street, Nassau County police said.
After police received a call at 1:17 a.m. Sunday reporting a burglary in progress, they arrived at 53 Covert Ave. to find a man lifting a rear window of a building.
The man, who police identified as Carlos Morales, 26, of 20 Arcade Pl., spotted police and ran away on foot, crossing through backyards, police said.
Police chased Morales, catching him on Beverly Avenue, where they arrested him.
Police said an investigation concluded that Morales had burglarized the building, which houses Benny and Mike's Barber Shop, once before, taking cash on May 31. Police said Morales also burglarized the Body Works Day Spa at 57 Covert Ave. twice, on May 25 and June 2, taking cash and jewelry, and Park Place Restaurant at 41 Covert Ave. on June 2, taking cash, a pair of pants and a bottle of Champagne.
Morales was charged with five counts of third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
