The man whose body was found a week ago in the woods along the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Freeport was the victim of a homicide, State Police said Wednesday.

Authorities still have not been able to identify the man, who was found May 8 on the southbound side of the parkway, north of Sunrise Highway. Police declined to say how he was killed.

The dead man is believed to have been in his 20s and police said he is likely of Honduran descent and new to the country, though they declined to say why they believe that to be the case.

They said he had no identification -- and it was not clear where he lived.

The State Police major crimes unit is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 631-756-3390.
