A traffic stop involving a speeding driver in Bellmore resulted in his arrest Thursday on drug possession charges, Nassau County police said.
Johnson Chan, 32, of 1341 Pea Pond Rd., Bellmore, was arrested and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a traffic infraction, police said.
Chan was driving his 2001 Ford "at a high rate of speed" on Merrick Road near Lefferts Place when he was spotted by plain clothes officers from the Seventh Precinct just after 11 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The officers initiated a traffic stop and police said they smelled marijuana -- and saw "an electronic cigarette commonly used for smoking hashish." An investigation found three large bags in excess of 3 pounds of marijuana, a small bag of cocaine, 10 white Hydrocodone pills, two yellow Hydrocodone pills and $3,020 in cash, police said.
Chan is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
