Long Beach police said there is a person of interest wanted in connection with a shooting Saturday just around the corner from the city's police headquarters.

The victim, a male, was treated at South Nassau Communities Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a Monday news release.

Police responded to 1 Sycamore Ct. at about 11:55 p.m. and found the victim in the roadway. He was transported to the hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department.

Officers interviewed individuals near the shooting scene shortly afterward but "all claimed to have seen nothing," police said.

Police found multiple shell casings of various calibers in the road at National Boulevard and West Fulton Street, police said.

Police also said they recovered two rifles believed to be used in the shooting, on West Fulton.

"The police currently have a person of interest, and the investigation is ongoing at this time," police said in the news release. They did not elaborate.

Nassau County police's Crime Scene unit also assisted in the investigation, police said.
