Police are searching for a man who robbed a taxi cabdriver at gunpoint late Sunday in Uniondale, as well as an accomplice who helped the robber escape the scene.

The 41-year-old driver for Taxi Fiesta was uninjured in the incident, Nassau County police said, managing to jump from the cab and flee.

The suspects fled the scene in a brown Toyota, the taxi driver told police.

The incident occurred at about 10:15 p.m., police said.

Police said the driver was dispatched to a call on Spruce Place, where a man with a think build, a goatee and a gray, hooded sweatshirt, entered the cab. The passenger asked to use the driver's cellphone -- and, police said, the driver complied. As the taxi started to pull away, police said a second man, on foot, attempted to block the cab from leaving.

The driver pulled around that man, but police said when the cab reached the corner of Paff Avenue the passenger pulled out "a small silver semiautomatic handgun" -- and the driver jumped from the cab.

The robbers took the cellphone and fled in the Toyota.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
