An independent contractor working for PSEG Long Island faces a grand larceny charge after taking copper wire from the utility company's Hicksville lot, Nassau County police said Friday.
Michael Cappiello, 48, of 17 Michigan Dr., Hicksville, was seen by an employee of the utility company putting four bundles of copper wire into the back of his pickup truck at about 1:45 p.m. April 14, according to Second Squad detectives.
On Thursday, Cappiello surrendered to detectives at the Second Precinct, police said, but the property was never recovered.
Cappiello was arraigned on a charge of fourth-degree grand larceny Friday and released with certain conditions.
