A 79-year-old woman, awakened by the sound of footsteps, scared off two burglars she found in the kitchen of her Sea Cliff home early Tuesday morning when she screamed, Nassau County police said.

Police said the woman was unharmed -- and that detectives are asking anyone with information about the burglary to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.

Police said the burglary occurred at the home on Glen Cove Avenue just after 12:15 a.m.

They said the sleeping woman was awakened by the sound of footsteps and that, when she went to investigate, she found two "unknown male subjects" wearing hooded sweatshirts in her kitchen.

After the woman screamed, police said the burglars fled the house through a back door.

Responding officers found a pocketbook and power tools outside the residence. Police said the pair took a wallet containing cash and "a computer attachment." It was not clear how much money was taken.

Police said the suspects entered the house through basement doors. The investigation is continuing Tuesday.
