First Squad detectives are looking for a man who stole another man's van and wallet Monday in East Meadow, Nassau County police said.

The suspect opened the passenger side door of a 1996 Dodge Caravan and demanded the driver's wallet at about 5:35 p.m., when the vehicle was parked in front of 2000 Hempstead Tpke., police said.

The driver, a 72-year-old man, tried to leave the van and a struggle between the two ensued, police said.

Both men fell from the van, and the suspect made off with the victim's keys and wallet and drove off in the van, traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

The van later was found by police a short distance from the crime scene, on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, police said.

The driver of the van was not injured, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
