Nassau police detectives Thursday asked the public's help in their investigation of a double homicide that took place earlier this week in Freeport.

Witnesses or others with information on the suspects are asked to call a confidential hotline, Crime Stoppers, at 800-244-TIPS.

The two victims, Christopher Clark, 22, and Brendan Lawrence, 20, both of Westbury, were walking east on Jesse Street in Freeport at around 9 p.m. Monday when they were shot dead. At first authorities were not sure how the friends got to Freeport, but police later found Lawrence's red 2000 Honda Civic parked around the corner on Lakeview Avenue.

After shots were first heard about 9 p.m. Freeport Village police were called to the scene. There, outside a home, they found Clark collapsed onto hedges and Lawrence near the sidewalk and lawn. Both men were dead, police said.

Clark and Lawrence each had a girlfriend in Freeport, but police said the day after the killings that those women did not know why they were in the area that night.
