Two masked men stole two cash registers -- and, all the cash inside them -- from a deli late Tuesday night during an armed robbery in Uniondale, Nassau County police said.
The robbers also took a separate cash box, police said.
Police said the robbery took place as the 35-year-old store clerk was closing the El Triunfo Deli on Uniondale Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. The clerk was not injured, police said. There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery, according to police.
Police said the first robber, tall and thin and wearing a red-and-green knit cap, a gray T-shirt, black cargo pants, black gloves and a black bandanna covering his face, brandished "a long-barreled black revolver," pointing it at the clerk and demanding he get on the floor. The second robber, shorter and stockier than the first, also wearing all black clothes with a black bandanna covering his face, then grabbed a cash register and walked out with it, police said.
Moments later, police said that robber returned to take a second cash register.
The first robber then grabbed the cash box and the two fled, police said. It was not clear how much money was taken.
Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
