Cops seek woman who tried robbing banks twice

Nassau detectives are looking for a woman who tried to rob two banks in Wantagh and East Meadow on Sunday.

Detectives said that around 1:30 p.m. the woman asked a bank teller at the TD Bank at 3222 Sunrise Hwy. in Wantagh for cash. The woman ran away in an unknown direction with no money, after the teller asked her to fill out a withdrawal slip and pressed a panic button alerting police.

At 1:55 p.m. the same woman, entered the TD Bank at 1600 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow and asked the teller for money. After the teller handed over the cash, the woman left the scene in a light blue Audi A4 with Michigan plates. The cash, which contained a dye pack, was recovered.

No injuries were reported from either robbery attempt.

The woman is described by detectives as in her mid to late 30s with red highlights and a dark complexion. She was wearing a multicolored jacket and black pants.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
