Nassau police said Sunday night a report of a "suspicious package" found in the parking lot in the Levittown Kohl's department appeared to be a false alarm.

Police were called to the store parking lot along Hempstead Turnpike at about 6:45 p.m., and had closed off the lot to investigate. By 9:30 p.m. a police spokeswoman said officers had left the scene and the package did not appear to contain any dangerous material. The spokeswoman did not immediately know the contents of the package.

Patrons were initially asked to stay inside the store as officers investigated, but were allowed to leave once they wrapped up their probe, police said.
