Two people were found dead in a Glen Cove house Wednesday morning, Nassau police said.
The discovery came after county Adult Protective Services received a call about 10:30 a.m. to check on the welfare of the residents at 13 Milford Lane, police said.
When no one answered the door, Glen Cove police and firefighters went in and found the bodies, Nassau police said.
The cause of death had not been determined pending autopsies, police said.
Homicide detectives were investigating and the street had been closed. The names of the two were not released.
A neighbor said an elderly woman and her son lived in the house. A woman used to visit the home to help the elderly woman, but she stopped coming years ago, the neighbor said.
"They were isolated," said the neighbor, who asked not to be named publicly. "They never talked to anybody."
Public records show the house having at least two occupants: a woman, 84, who has lived there since 1986, and a man, 58, who has lived there since 1992.
