Cops: UPS impersonator ties up Elmont residents at gunpoint, ransacks house

A man holding a box and wearing a brown UPS jacket put down the package and revealed a handgun Tuesday afternoon when a woman answered the doorbell at her Elmont home, police said.

That woman, 35, and another one, 52, were bound with plastic ties by the man at about 2:50 p.m., Nassau police said, before the burglar ransacked the house, and took jewelry, credit cards and other personal property.

The women and an infant boy who was also in the house were not injured, Nassau police said.

The gunman, aged 20 to 25 years old, was 6 feet tall, of slim build, and wearing a brown skull cap and blue jeans, said police who added that he was last seen heading on foot north on Barbara Avenue.

Detectives asked that anyone with information regarding the burglary contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
