Cops: Victim follows snatcher, gets purse back

A woman whose purse was snatched at a McDonald's in Wantagh was reunited with it after she called the police and followed the thief to a nearby train station, police said.

Nassau County police said the woman left her pocketbook unattended Saturday as she cleaned off the table before 8:30 a.m. at the fast-food chain's Wantagh Avenue location. Police said Michelle L. Hendrickson, 31, of 3541 Naomi Pl. in Seaford, took the bag. When Hendrickson attempted to flee the eatery, she and the victim struggled as the victim tried to grab her purse back, police said. Hendrickson got away, and the victim followed her to the train station were officers arrested Hendrickson, police said. The victim recovered her property and no injuries were reported, police said.

Police have charged Hendrickson with third-degree robbery. Hendrickson will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
