When the resident of the home, Craig Paulich, 43, was questioned, he admitted to setting off the fireworks, police said.

A search of the premises was made by arson/bomb squad detectives, who found commercial-grade explosives and consumer-grade fireworks in the garage.

Paulich was arrested at 11:45 p.m. and charged with illegal storage of explosives and illegal possession of explosives. At his arraignment on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead, Paulich was ordered conditionally released to probation, according to court records. He is due back in court on June 10.

The pyrotechnic devices were confiscated, police said.
