A Deer Park man was arrested and charged with assault early Wednesday after he stabbed another man on the platform at the Long Island Rail Road station in Farmingdale, police said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority police identified the suspect as Orlando Sanchez Jr., 29, and said he also was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned at First District Court and ordered held on $15,000 bail or bond. He is due back in court Friday.

Police said he was stabbed in the left shoulder with a knife -- and that the puncture wound required "two sutures."

The alleged assault took place just after 12 a.m.

Police said Sanchez was arrested after being subdued by the victim and a taxi driver.

Police said the suspect and the victim first met each other at the train station and went to drink at a nearby bar. The victim told police that when the two returned to the station, he "began to assist the defendant onto the train" -- at which time the Sanchez "became physical and reportedly stabbed the victim with a knife."
