Despite rain, wind, breast cancer walk raises $2.8 million

It would have taken a lot more than a cold, driving rain and 40-mph wind gusts to keep Kathleen O'Sullivan away from Jones Beach Sunday.

O'Sullivan, a breast cancer survivor who underwent double mastectomy surgery in 2007, said she came to the beach on a dreary Sunday to raise money and awareness for the disease that had threatened both her life and that of her mother, Kathy, 72, also a survivor.
