A Long Beach man faces a charge of attempted murder in the shotgun shooting of a woman at a North Merrick home, Nassau County police said Monday.

The woman, 26, lost some fingers when she was shot in the hands, upper body and forehead at about 9:10 p.m. Sunday at a home on William Street, police said.

In a Monday news release, police did not disclose the nature of the relationship between the victim and suspect. The victim was taken to a hospital and after surgery was listed in stable condition, police said.

Detectives said the woman and a man who was at the home, Diquan Booker, 26, of 157 Westchester St., became involved in an argument.

Booker "produced a shotgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim grabbed the barrel of the shotgun, and the defendant then shot the victim in both hands, the forehead and upper body," according to a news release.

Booker is charged with second-degree attempted murder and three counts of first-degree criminal contempt.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
