A stretch of the eastbound Long Island Expressway in western Nassau County will be closed overnight until early Sunday for a paving project, the state Department of Transportation said.

All eastbound lanes between Exit 32, Little Neck Parkway, and Exit 37, Willis Avenue, will be closed Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday; Friday, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday; and Saturday, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday. Service roads will be open.

The overnight closure in both directions started Wednesday, the agency said, as part of a $9.5 million project to install new pavement in a four-mile stretch of the LIE. The westbound work has been completed.

Originally, the agency scheduled overnight closures from Sunday through Thursday. However, the closure hours were extended because of rain and "to help expedite the installation of new pavement" in anticipation of a possible Long Island Rail Road strike, according to a news release and a transportation official.
