Early warmth gives way to cooler week
GalleriesHot weather hits LI and NY
The warmest weather of the year so far could be on the way for Long Island this week.
Lauren Nash, a National Weather Service meteorologist at the Upton station, said temperatures could climb from the 50s Sunday into the 70s Tuesday, making it possibly the warmest day of the year and perhaps even a contender for the record of 73 degrees, set in 1991.
But then temperatures are expected to drop back into the 50s from Wednesday on, she said.
Nighttime temperatures will be in the 40s throughout the week, she said.
An incoming front could bring rain Tuesday night, and Nash said she expects it to linger, with a chances of showers lasting until next weekend.
