A BMW driver being pursued by a trooper crashed into two cars Friday on the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh, ending a half-mile chase, State Police said.

Neither Chamion A. Green, 18, of Uniondale, nor the trooper was injured but one or two people in the other vehicles have minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, said State Police spokesman Frank Bandiero.

The eastbound parkway remained shut down by Exit 28, Wantagh Avenue, for about two hours as police investigated. The road reopened shortly before 4 p.m.

The trooper was on traffic duty when the chase started about 2 p.m. on the eastbound Southern, near Wantagh State Parkway, Bandiero said.

"He attempted to pull over a BMW, and the person attempted to flee," the spokesman said.

About two minutes later, Green's BMW hit two cars, near the Wantagh Avenue exit, he said.

Green was charged with resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, third-degree unlawful fleeing, second-degree reckless endangerment as well as multiple traffic tickets, state police said.

He was held in Nassau County Jail on Friday night and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
