Nassau County police Fourth Squad detectives have arrested a 19-year-old Elmont man on a weapons possession charge.

Police said officers were conducting plainclothes duties Friday afternoon on Village Avenue when they observed a group of what looked like students from nearby Elmont High School. Police said a particular individual was acting suspiciously and "in a nervous manner" that caught their attention. That person left the group and headed eastbound on Village Avenue.

Police said upon stopping Jerome Hewitt, officers noticed a bulge under his jacket "consistent with that of a possible weapon." After patting Hewitt down, they opened his jacket and saw a loaded Hi-Point .380-caliber handgun, police said.

Hewitt, of 109 King Ct., was arrested on a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
