Firefighters rescue cat from Centerport house fire
A pet cat was rescued from a fire that severely damaged a Centerport home after starting in a kitchen garbage can and spreading rapidly through the house, Centerport Fire Chief Robert Ciafardoni said Monday.
No one was home when the fire broke out about 6:35 p.m. Sunday at 11 Idle Day Dr., Ciafardoni said. A cat named Sam was found hiding in the basement after the fire was put out, he said....
