Glen Cove man arrested in parkway hit-run

A Glen Cove man faces charges of leaving an accident scene and resisting arrest after a hit-and-run crash Wednesday on the Northern State Parkway, State Police said.

Troopers from the Lake Success barracks responded to an accident scene on the parkway at New Hyde Park Road, near the border of North New Hyde Park and Manhasset, at about 6:04 p.m. and found that a gray BMW hit a maroon GMC and then drove off, police said in a news release.

Troopers obtained license plate information and tracked the BMW to a residence on Byrd Street in Glen Cove.

Police arrested the BMW's driver, Shawn Bellamy, 36, on several charges, including leaving the scene, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and other traffic violations, police said.

Police said Bellamy "pushed" a trooper during his arrest.

He was remanded on bail of $4,000, cash or bond, Thursday at his arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead. It was not clear if he had an attorney.

He is due back in court on Monday.
