Glen Cove police probe death of homeless man

Glen Cove police are awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death of a homeless man found Tuesday in a municipal parking facility.

Det. Lt. John Nagle, commander of the detective division, said the man, in his early 50s, was found at about 2:45 p.m. in a third-floor stairwell of the Pulaski parking garage.

Police have a pretty good idea who the man is, Nagle said Wednesday, but they are trying contact family to be sure.

Nagle said the man is someone who has "been in our community for some time. We know what name he's been going under, but is that his real name? That's why we want to contact his next of kin before releasing his identity."

Nagle said police have no idea how the man died but that there were no signs of a struggle or foul play.

"We're waiting on an autopsy," Nagle said. "We don't know if it is a natural death or if he had some type of incident."
