Hempstead man charged with hotel robberies
A Hempstead man who allegedly targeted and robbed three women at gunpoint during a string of hotel robberies in May was arraigned in First District Court Wednesday.
Anthony A. Leazer Jr., 29, was charged with one count of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery, one count of second-degree menacing and another count of third-degree menacing, according to authorities. Information on his bail status was not immediately available.
When the woman opened the door, the suspect brandished a semi-automatic handgun, pushing his way into the room, police said.
The assailant then allegedly forced the victim on the floor and demanded cash. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, he fled, police said. No injuries were reported, officers said.
Three days later, Leazer, allegedly armed with a handgun, entered the room of a 20-year-old woman about 1:40 p.m. at Red Roof Inn, 699 Dibble Drive in East Garden City, police said. He told the victim to lie on the floor and demanded money, authorities said.
When he left the room, the woman locked the door, police said. Leazer banged on the door in an attempt to regain entry, but the victim jumped out of a window, sustaining serious injuries.
The suspect then allegedly fled on foot with an unknown amount of money, police said. The woman was treated at a local hospital.
On May 14, police say Leazer knocked on the door of a 28-year-old woman's room at Best Western Hotel about 8:50 p.m. at 5080 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. When the victim opened the door, Leazer allegedly brandished a handgun and pushed the victim into the room. A male guest next door heard the commotion and left his room, which apparently startled the suspect who then fled the scene. No injuries were reported, police said.
