On Monday, March 13, 2017, Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino announced that his government has been named a "Clean Energy Town" by New York State, which qualifies the town for an award grant of $150,000. Hempstead Town was awarded the "Clean Town" designation based upon four major environmental achievements.
