Breaking news from Shake Shack: The well-regarded burger chain will be going back to previously frozen crinkle-cut fries this fall.  This after having converted about half the Shake Shack restaurants (including the Long Island branch in Garden City) to hand-cut fries over the past year.

“We reacted to what we thought we heard,” a posting on the website reads. “But in fact, while listening to a few outspoken critics, we never fully heard the legions of fans that loved our classic crinkle.” When the frozen fries return, the website goes on to say, they will “be free from the artificial ingredients that so many frozen fries include; ingredients we know we can live without.”

Bottom line: If you’re a fan of the hand-cut fries, better get them while they’re still hot. If you’re a devotee of the crinkle cuts, your day will be coming again soon.

Shake Shack is at The Gallery at Westbury Plaza, 860 Old Country Rd., Garden City, 516-620-2880,
