Hempstead pedestrian critical after possible hit-run

A man was seriously injured after police say he was possibly hit by two cars Tuesday night while crossing North Franklin Street in Hempstead.

Hempstead police said a pedestrian was crossing North Franklin Street near Centre Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. and was hit by a car. That driver remained at the scene, said police, who are investigating the possibility that the pedestrian was also struck by a second car that fled the scene.

The man was taken to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where police said he was listed in critical condition.
