Hempstead Town officials launched an awareness campaign on Thursday, June 8, 2017, to protect the federally endangered piping plover. They were joined by the conservation group, Audubon New York, and fourth grade students from the Brandeis School in Lawrence, who crafted posters to be placed near the shoreline, alerting beachgoers to stay out of the birds' nesting areas (Credit: News 12 Long Island)
