A school bus accident in Jericho Monday sent 12 children to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The accident with at least one other vehicle happened at about 1:56 p.m. at the intersection of Brush Hollow Road and Jericho Turnpike, a Nassau police spokeswoman said.

The students, ages 15 and 16, came from Westbury schools and were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, hospital spokeswoman Shelley Lotenberg said. They were evaluated at the emergency unit and released by early evening after being treated for minor injuries, she said.

No other details were available on the driver or the cause of the accident, police said. Westbury school officials could not be reached for comment. Police initially said one responding officer would drive the bus to the nearest hospital as a precautionary measure, but later said the report turned out to be wrong.
