An early morning four-car crash on the westbound Long Island Expressway in the Plainview-Locust Grove area left eight people injured and snarled rush-hour traffic for miles Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said.

Police said one of the vehicles involved overturned in the high-occupancy-vehicle lane near Exit 44, the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, and forced lane closures at about 6 a.m.

As a result, traffic was backed up to the Suffolk County line, near Exit 48.

Police said eight people were aided, but that just two were taken to a hospital for treatment; their conditions were not immediately known.

The blocked lane was reopened before 9 a.m.

Police said the accident is under investigation.
