Service on the Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon line was restored in both directions shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, less than two hours after authorities first reported that an unauthorized person on the tracks had been struck by a train.

Service was initially suspended in both directions. Subsequent alerts said eastbound service was first restored, then service in both directions was restored once westbound traffic commenced, though with some delays.
