MTA police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man who was hit by a train Thursday evening at the Bellmore station.
A westbound Long Island Rail Road train struck the Bellmore man, Metropolitan Transportation Authority police said.
The locomotive engineer reported that she was operating the train at about 70 mph when she saw the victim standing on the platform.
The engineer reported that the man "then moved into the path of the approaching train," MTA police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the passengers on board the train were injured, police said.
