Man arrested on Leandra's Law charge in Dix Hills

A Manhattan man faces felony charges of driving drunk under Leandra's Law after troopers pulled him over Thursday on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills with two children as passengers, State Police said.

Vince Mojica, 26, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup west near Exit 42, Deer Park Avenue, at about 9:30 p.m. when troopers noticed he was unable to maintain his lane, police said.

After a traffic stop, Mojica was found to be intoxicated and placed under arrest; two children were in the car, his daughter, 3; and a boy, 14, a family relative, police said.

The children were released to family, police said.

Mojica is charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony, endangering the welfare of a child and several other traffic violations, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Leandra's Law was passed in 2009 after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.
