Man attacks woman in Inwood, flees with purse, say cops

Nassau police are looking for a man they said attacked a woman in Inwood during a struggle and fled with her purse.

The 55-year-old woman was walking to a bus stop on Doughty Boulevard about 6 a.m. Tuesday when the man approached her and demanded she hand over her pocketbook, police said. She refused and a scuffle ensued as the robber tried to grab the bag off the woman's shoulder, leaving the her face bloodied with cuts and scratches, police said.

Eventually the suspect got the bag, and fled. Police said he was described as wearing a light-colored sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries, police said.
