A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a passing motorist lay undiscovered on the side of the road in Yaphank for 10 hours, police said Monday, because their search for him was concentrated in the wrong area.
The body of Elmer Mendez, 32, of Shirley, was discovered at 8 a.m. Monday, on Montauk Highway in Yaphank, Suffolk police said.
