An Elmont man who thought he heard a noise in the middle of the night on Sunday turned out to be the victim of an attempted burglary, Nassau police said.

The 50-year-old victim was sleeping upstairs in his Virginia Avenue home about 2:30 a.m. when a noise awakened him, police said. The victim went to the first floor, but didn't see anything unusual and returned to sleep.

After the victim awoke for the day, he went into a bedroom on the first floor about 8 a.m. and found that the window was open and the adjustable blinds were broken, police said. Nothing was reported missing.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
